IT’S TIME TO

History of Thirumala Tirupati

Venkateswara Temple is an important Vaishnavite temple situated in the hill town of Tirumala in Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh, built by a Tamil king Tondaiman and later expanded and renovated under the Chola and Vijayanagara Empire. The Temple is dedicated to Lord Venkateswara, an incarnation of Vishnu, who is believed to have appeared here to save mankind from the trials and troubles of Kali Yuga. The temple is situated at a height of 853 metres on Tirumala Hills which are part of Seshachalam Hills and is constructed in South Indian Tamil Architectural Style.

Sri Venkateshwara Swamy

Lord Sri Venkateswara, also known as Srinivasa, Balaji, and Veṅkaṭachalapati, made Tirumala his abode five thousand years ago. Even before him, it was Lord Varahaswami who had made Tirumala his abode. Since then, many devotees have continued to construct grand entrances on the ramparts of the temple over generations.

Sri Padmavati Ammavaaru

The goddess was said to have emerged from a lotus flower in a pond in the nearby town of Padmavathi Kshetram. She was discovered by Lord Venkateswara while he was on a hunting expedition, and they fell in love. They got married in a grand ceremony, which is believed to have taken place at this temple.

Sri Varaha Swamy Temple

According to the legend, Tirumala was originally called “Adivarahakshetra” (dwelling place of Sri Bhu Varaha Swamy). According to Brahmapurana, it is Lord Sri Bhu Varaha Swamy who granted land to Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy on his request to reside in the sacred Seven Hills.
